this was the trip that i got so giddy about. aside from having purchased a cheap fare ( thanks to cebu pacific), we were able to visit one of the wonders of the world---Mayon volcano.
although having a bed weather in Albay were flashing in the news, still, it didn't stop us from seeing mayon's true beauty. you can appreciate Mayon at it's best by visiting famous spots like lignon hill where you can enjoy the uphill view (you can zipline too), the cagsawa ruins ( the ruins of one of the oldest church in Legaspi that was swept away by lahar), and the atv ride( a four-wheeler motorcycle) going to the volcanic rocks. different views, but all beautiful.
i'm kind of biased and i have to say that the best we've tried was the atv ride. we had to drive by ourselves for an hour all the way up and another hour going back down. at first we were cautious since most of us doesn't know how to drive. the bumpy rough roads made it even difficult for us to control it.we crossed rivers and bumped several trees, hit and got splashed with the cow's poops, but didn't care 'coz it was a once in a lifetime experience. after an hour or so, we reached our destination. a few steps and a few short breaths going up to the volcanic rocks. the view was breathtaking! i cannot compare to anything in the world. it was just one of a kind to be able to see and touch the ash-colored rocks formed from lava, i even imagined how amazing it would be to capture the volcano erupt. haha.
Donsol, Sorsogon was our next stop. the original plan was to swim with the whale sharks but since the locals told us that they don't show up on rainy season (we went there last july), we decided to go firefly watching instead.. it was around six in the evening when we started cruising down the river. a very friendly guide talked almost everything we needed to know about fireflies.they only show up when it's completely dark with no heavy rain. we waited for several minutes and little by little, they started to show up. the green lights were shining and those little creatures gave me goosebumps. we transferred to another mangrove and they were like a burning bush or a live christmas lights. it was romantic for lovers, and a wishful thinking for single ladies ( like me). *sigh.
down to our last destination--- Camarines Sur! the wake boarding capital of the Philippines. from Legaspi,we took a 2-hour van ride to CWC (Camarines Sports Complex) where we stayed overnight at a villa (with reasonable price) called tiki.
we didn't really like the staff , they were not accommodating and they were a bit snub. we had to cool ourselves down since we don't wanna waste time complaining how bad their service was. and there we decided to hit the water. not the typical swimming, instead we tried wake boarding.
we jumped for joy when there was a promo where we only paid 165php/hour ( that's for beginners only). of course we grabbed it rather than paying 1,500 bucks for just 15 minutes to use the big lake where there are obstacles for pro wake boarders.
i thought it was just a piece of cake. but i guess i got that wrong. as first timers, we need to sit first before we proceed to the next level (which was standing up). first few attempts failed, but the fun of doing it over and over again made us better ( as beginners only) haha. the feeling of the rope pulling you and balancing yourself in the water is something you can be proud of. not bragging or anything, i even learned how to stand already in just one hour.
this is a sport i want to indulge in ( too bad we don't have this in cebu), it can really help in losing weight which i badly need. haha. i will come back here hopefully by april of next year and try the bigger lake and join them pros hahahah. plus, my friends and i plan to hit the beaches of caramoan islands. wohoooo! can't wait. =)
