Been to several places but i just started this blog. so i would like to share a memorable trip last may, which i consider my sweet summer ender.
I have been hearing gossips about sumilon about how beautiful this small island is. got a little curious, opened my laptop and searched about it. when i saw the pictures and the details my eyes opened and my smile widened like never before. i browsed my phone searched for my friend's numbers and right then and there i told them that we were going to go to this place.
we decided to have the whole day tour in the island since it only cost 1500php with inclusions of roundtrip boat transfers from oslob to sumilon and vice versa, the use of amenities and a plated lunch.
Reserved date was moved due work schedules. luckily my contact in sumilon, who was kuya jun ( a local from sumilon) helped us book another date.my dad was willing to drive us to oslob which is a 3-hour drive since he was also planning to go fishing near the island. but he told me one thing i got pressured about. before sumilon trip, i had to survive a night (10pm-6am) shift. and what my dad told me was to be out of the hospital at exactly 6am. fortunately i managed to finish what i needed to by that time.
From the hospital we went straight to oslob while having breakfast of burgers and friench fries along the way. a long drive, and tiny showers of rain, but i was optimistic that the sun will show some light by the time we will reach there.
after 3 hours of comfortably sitting in the car, we reached the sumilon port. a few local staff greeted us with fresh lemongrass (tangad) drinks. then the boat took us to the island which was 5 minutes away from the port.
When we reached the island, my jaw dropped. it was the most romantic and secluded place i've seen in my 23 years. there were only few guests both local and foreign but you can see they are having the best time. the staff were very accommodating giving us a map of the island and giving us brief talk all about it.
we changed clothes and decided to go for a kayak first. the place was serene, all we could hear was the chirping of the birds around the tall healthy mangroves that lined up. after that we headed for snorkling, they provided us with free life jackets and snorkles. the life underwater was colorful, i couldn't even put into words how in love i was with the fishes, corals and every little part of the sea.
It was too early for lunch so we rode a trolley down the sand bar and i could not believe what i just saw. the long stretch of pure and fine white sand like a virgin never been touched. we were told that the sand bar changes its shape and form depending on where the current is heading. we dipped ourselves in the cold crystal clear water feeling the sand in our toes. the sun is shining and we felt our skin slightly burned by it.
after enjoying the beach, we went back to the hall where our appetizer, main course and dessert were served. bulging tummies and happy smiles. agghhhhh! now back to another adventure.
trekking was next in out itinerary. we brought with us wooden sticks as we wandered through the forest of sumilon. it took us an hour to finish the trail but it was fun since we were singing our hearts out along the way.
We needed refreshments after that long walk, so we decided to end the trip by dipping into the eternity pool and jacuzzi where i felt like being connected to the ocean, telling myself that i can stay there all day imagining how i want my life to be.
I wish to go back there someday, together with the love of my life (searching still) and do the same things i did plus the diving part, which, of course, i intended to save for the two of us to try-- together.
